Skyla Dawn Luckey was born in Flowood, Mississippi, to Dawn Luckey (Keary) and Robert Luckey. Her mother read children's books to her every day. Skyla learned to memorize the books because she had her mom read them over and over again to her. At four-years-old when she learned how to read, she read with expression and gave each character in the book their own voice. When Skyla started school, reading was her favorite subject and her classmates/teachers liked listening to her read stories from their schoolbooks. Along with reading, Skyla liked playing with her imaginary friends at home. Her family was entertained by her imagination when she would set a place at the dinner table for each one of her imaginary friends. Her older cousin, Dawn remembers that her imaginary friends had uncommon names. She'd play games with her imaginary friends and her four-year-old bossy side would come out when she would say to an imaginary friend, "No! You can't move there. You have to move it here." Skyla grew out of her imaginary friends when she was around five or six and her love for reading continued. Her dad loved watching the news every morning and night. Skyla and her mom pretended to be news reporters and they'd make up news stories using spoons from the kitchen as their microphones. She and her mom always made each other laugh with their imaginations combined. When Skyla was around 11, her mom started taking her to see theatre productions regularly in Jackson, Mississippi. From there she fell in love with theatre and her parents signed her up for theatre training. She performed in plays and continued theatre training throughout her adolescent years. In her early 20s she worked as a radio personality and continued acting in plays and TV commercials. She moved to Florida in her mid-twenties and started training with acting coach Andi Matheny. She continues to act in plays, films, TV commercials and create voice overs.
